The Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency Expands Services for Homeless Families with The ARCHES Nest

Salem, OR, Jan. 3, 2024 — The Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency (MWVCAA) is proud to announce the upcoming opening of a greatly needed shelter aimed at enhancing support for homeless families in Marion and Polk counties: The ARCHES Nest.

“No child should have to sleep outside, and we believe that every family deserves a safe, stable environment to build a better future,” said Ashley Hamilton, Deputy Executive Director.

MWVCAA is set to open The ARCHES Nest, located at 2933 Center St SE, Salem, OR 97301,on January 24 at 11:30 a.m.

The ARCHES Nest will substantially increase local shelter capacity for families, providing a safe, supportive environment where they can begin their journey toward stability and independence.

The flexibility of the family spaces will accommodate families of many sizes. Most importantly, 36 moms, dads, kids and grandparents can have a safe space.

“These new spaces represent our commitment to empowering families through compassionate and practical solutions,” said Hamilton. “We are dedicated to providing not just shelter, but also the resources and support families need to thrive.”

The MWVCAA remains unwavering in its commitment to combating homelessness through a comprehensive and integrated approach, blending shelter, essential resources, and robust advocacy efforts. The launch of The ARCHES Nest marks a pivotal step in the agency’s mission to create transformative, long-term change for vulnerable families within our community.

This initiative comes at a critical time, as Oregon faces an unprecedented crisis: the highest family homelessness rate in the nation. Alarming data from McKinney-Vento reports reveal a stark 17% increase in child homelessness statewide, underscoring the urgency of our work.

Now more than ever, these services are not just needed—they are essential to breaking the cycle of poverty and ensuring brighter futures for Oregon’s children and families. The ARCHES Nest was made possible with generous funding from The Bezos Day 1 Family Fund, The Mid-Willamette Valley Homeless Alliance and Governor Tina Kotek’s Emergency Order.
